How is the league structured?
A:
The Detroit MSBL consists of three separate leagues:
25+ League (15 teams in 2006).
35+ League (15 teams in 2006).
45+ League (4 teams in 2006).

How do I get on a team?
A:
New players are encouraged to attend the spring draft/workout. Alternately, players may join teams through the invitation of a team’s manager OR by contacting a manager on their own.

When is the draft/workout?
A:
The 2007 draft for the 25+, 35+ and 45+ leagues was conducted on Saturday, April 21.
Information on the 2008 draft will be made availabile in February 2008.

I see you said the workout happens rain or shine, but what if it is really raining hard?
A:
The workout/draft will occur RAIN OR SHINE and that includes boatloads of torrential rain.

Where are games played?
A:
Games are played at municipal and high school fields throughout the Metro Detroit area. See the Fields link on the website for a listing of all fields currently used by the league (including maps).

How old do you have to be to play in the 25+/35+/45+ league?
A:
Players must be at least 25/35/45 years of age at ANY time during a season’s calendar year.

How many games do you play in the 25+ league?
A:
Teams play a 24-game regular season followed by a single-elimination playoff tournament.

When does the season begin?
A:
The season usually begins after Memorial Day weekend. Opening Day for the 2007 season is May 30th for the 25+ league and June 2 for the 35+ league. The 45+ league will begin later in June.

When does the season end?
A:
The regular season typically winds down around Labor Day. Make-up games are then completed before starting the playoffs. The playoffs usually conclude mid- to late-September depending on the weather.

What days and times are the games in the 25+ league?
A:
Teams can play on any day of the week. Weekday games can start anywhere from 5:45 PM to 8:45 PM, depending on the field. Weekend games can start as early as 11:00 AM.

Do you play 7-inning or 9-inning games?
A:
In the 35+ and 45+ leagues, all games are 7-innings. The only exception would be if a best-of-three playoff series goes to a third/deciding game, then that game would be a 9-inning game.
In the 25+ league there are a few 9-inning games. These are determined by the field and the time between games. For example, if game times are 11 AM, 2 PM, and 5 PM, then the games will be 9-inning games UNLESS a team is playing a doubleheader against two different teams.

Do you play doubleheaders in the 25+ league?
A:
All teams will have at least one scheduled doubleheader. Teams can play more doubleheaders upon request. Teams may play additional doubleheaders near the end of the season when makeup games are scheduled.

What types of bats are used in the league?
A:
Currently there are no bat restrictions in the 25+ league. In the 35+ league there are some designated "Wood Bat" games where aluminum bats are not allowed.
The 45+ league is a Wood Bat only league.

How many teams/divisions are there in the league?
A:
The number of teams, and he number of divisions within a league, changes from year to year. The league tries to group the divisions so that the teams are as evenly matched from a competitive standpoint as is possible.

Are there restrictions regarding players with pro experience?
A:
For national tournaments, players must be out of pro ball for three years in order to be eligible.

How would you describe the level of competition in the league?
A:
The league tries to set up divisions where teams can be competitive. There are teams stocked with former college and minor-league players. There are other teams comprised of guys with considerably less experience playing organized ball.

How many games do you play in the 35+ league?
A:
The regular season is 24 games, followed by a single-elimination playoff tournament.

What days and times are the games in the 35+ and 45+ league?
A:
Most games are played on the weekend, However, teams can play on any day of the week and toward the end of the season there are typically more weekday games. Weekday games can start anywhere from 5:45 PM to 8:30 PM, depending on the field.

A:
Teams in the 35+ and 45 + league play a number of doubleheaders each year.
