This year's games and Home Run Derby are now history. In the 35 game, the American All Stars came from behind to beat the Nationals 7-6. The American team was made up of players from the Indians, Braves, Old English D's, Riverdogs, Pirates, and Rangers. The Nationals were made up of players from the Tigers, Astros, Dodgers, White Sox, and Yankees. The MVP of the game was Kevin Wojtylko of the Old English D's.
In the 45 game the American team held off a late charge by the Natioanls to win 8-7. The American team was made up of players from the Tribe, Phillies, D's, Cubs, and Yankees. The Nationals were made up of players from the Nationals, Mariners, Pirates, Tigers, and Mudville. The MVP of the game was Joe Bottorff of the D's.
In between games the Home Run Derby was held with 24 participants trying to hit dingers for a good cause, the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Gerald Davis was awarded first place for hitting a solo blast and two others off of the fence. Jason Copeland was second with one dinger and one off of the fence, and Dave Lezotte was third with one out and one that one hopped the fence.
Through the player and fan donations, we raised more than $2500 from the Derby and almost $500 from the bat and gift certificate raffel. All proceeds are going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. This is 50% more than what we raised last year. Special thanks goes out to Bob Tar ($1,000), Mike Lax ($500), Sean Moran ($300) and Bob Hogan ($100) for their very generous donations.
Thanks to the players, and managers for providing exciting games for the spectators, to Mike Juliano for helping with the logistics, to Charlie Shottroff for the food, to Jim Price for his help with pictures, and to all of the fans that came out to root for their favorite players. Give me a week or so and I'll post where you can go to look at the pictures. I need some time to edit and upload them.
