Cardinals Back on Track With Win Over A's
Adam Barrett pitched a complete game and hit a home run as part of a 14-hit attack as the Cardinals beat the A's on a picture perfect day at Novi High School on Saturday.
The top four hitters in the lineup did the heavy damage, pounding out 10 hits, including 5 doubles and Barrett's towering blast over the left centerfield fence. Scott Misuraca went 4-4 with 2 doubles 3 RBI. Jerry Emerson went 2-3 with a double, 2 RBI, Darrin Clark went 2-4, double, 2 RBI and Barrett went 2-3, a double that nearly left the yard, a HR and 3 RBI. Glenn Triest also added 2 hits to represent the bottom part of the order, and Mike Hanfee added a double as the Cardinal bats finally came to life.
The Cardinals took a 4-0 lead in the 3rd when Chris Miller walked, Triest following with an infield hit, then 3 straight RBI hits by Emerson, Misuraca and Clark. Barrett's sac fly scored the 4th run of the inning.
The only runs for the A's came in the 4th inning, aided by an error to make it a 4-2 game. But the Cardinals answered back immediately with a 4-run 5th. Triest led off with a single, then 4 straight RBI doubles by Emerson, Misuraca, Clark and Barrett to make it 8-2. The Cards added two more in the 6th on and RBI groundout by Miller and a run scoring double by Misuraca. Barrett closed out the scoring with a 7th-inning HR.
On the pitching side, Barrett breezed through the first 3 innings before the A's scored their runs in the 4th. After that he pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the 6th, but struck out the 3 & 4 hitters in the A's lineup to end the threat, then a 1-2-3 7th to close out the win. In all, Barrett struck out 7 with 0 walks.
Next up for the Cardinals is the Bulls at Hazel Park on Wednesday.
