Well the Indians hit the win column much earlier in the season than they did last year. Game two of the season against the D's at the Clawson field brought Kevin Johnstone to the mound to start the game. He pitched a respectable 3 1/3 innings, holding the always tough D's to just two runs. The Indians had a very slow start to the game and didn't put a run on the board until the sixth inning when Ari Lehman came to the plate with two guys in scoring position and hit a two run single to tie the game at two. Dale Hayes, in relief of Johnstone since the third inning continued to keep the D's off balance at the plate. In the seventh inning after 1 out, Ben Loshaw came through with a clutch single and then the number four hitter Chris McCrory was able to draw a walk to put two guys on base. The D's were able to strike out the next batter bringing Jason Wanacek, (the #1 draft choice this year), to the plate with two on and two out. Wanacek proceeded to hit a line drive into left field bringing in the go ahead run from 2nd base. The Indians were able to add to that lead because of a passed ball making the score 4-2 going into the bottom of the 7th. Dale Hayes created a sticky situation by walking the first batter and then giving up a hit to the second batter of the inning for the D's. Small for the D's came to the plate next and dropped a Texas leaguer into shallow right field for a hit and an RBI but playing right field for the Indians, Dave Calhoun charged the ball hard and fired it to second to get the runner. Striking out the next batter, Hayes was able get the last batter to pop out to the second baseman for the final out, securing the win for the Indians.
